Stairs…and other good stuff
One of the motto’s that’s seemed to stick around for us is Stairs…and other good stuff. If nothing else it’s a conversation starter because everyone’s always so curious what other good stuff means. And the answer really seems to be, any fun, challenging, or creative thing, someone else is smart enough NOT to take on.
Sure, stairs have a lot of challenges and creativity all by themselves, but sometimes you just have to mix it up and learn something new. And sometimes you just want to save some nice wood from the burn pile. This is one of those times.
I was cleaning up the shop a bit, after a big stair job and I couldn’t bring myself to burn this nice little chunk of maple. So I made it into a little tray. I chiseled the edges, to mimic the one side that was already roughed up, sanded it and added fun little leather handles.
Another commonly used saying around here is K.I.S.S. : Keep It Simple Stupid. So for once I listened to myself and really did keep it simple. Let the wood and leather combo speak for itself. I finished it with two coats of polyurethane and topped it with a butcher block wax. Simple, and it just makes me smile when I look at it.
And of course I had to make some cute props for the photos. Gin and tonic anyone? That’s a cool bottle I found and etched Gin on it with a dremel.
And I keep seeing all this beautiful embroidery so I thought I’d give that a try too in this adorable little hoop. It’s rough and kind of looks like a child’s drawing, but, hey, it’s quirky and fun. That’s a skill I need to hone a bit more.
Now which drink should I drink first, Coffee or Gin….Hmm
